The Big Spenders were out last night at Mayfield. $60 million, give or take a dollar or two, were given the thumbs up by the majority of the participants taking part in the community CIP meeting last night. Such spending would demand a pretty hefty tax increase as City Manager John Budesky noted, but as Budesky also noted the night was really more of an ongoing discussion between city officials and citizens ( some not even from Manassas).
None of the proposed CIPs have been settled on or voted on yet, and thanks to Mayor Parrish and Councilmen Aveni, Lovejoy and Way, the process by which the CIPs will be determined and funded should be open enough so Manassas taxpayers will be able to judge the merit and wisdom of each project.
Overall, I have to give the City and School Board credit for organizing these citizen feedback sessions, I do wonder if anybody else felt the urge to stand up and call out Bingo when the numbers finally came up on the screen.
